"ANI (The Harvest)" Movie Review - Flawed but Admirable

A kid had to face the world in his own animated version and conquer life's biggest monster. ANI (The Harvest) It's as if a child's imagination is a safe haven, a place where the world is a playground for all the possibilities the mind could think of. And even the tight and humble space called home, situated on a busy Metro could not hinder the inquisitive headspace of a young Mithi (played by Zyren Dela Cruz), a boy who accomplishes the day by playing with his colorful toy robots that perform a vital role in his imaginary narrative. With a loving father and a mother that sings him a self-assuring lullaby, Mithi is blissfully unaware of the harsh reality. But life decided to toy with his fate, and Mithi's perfect little world is now showing its cracks, putting his vulnerability to the test and slowly depriving him of his happiness he thought would last forever. And through his eyes, the world suddenly transforms itself into a menacing monster.  Set in a lush

From the Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, comes a what seems to be an Elseworld comic storyline that uses the Superman mythos and turning it into a supervillain origin. Brightburn opens up when a young couple accidentally found a baby when an unidentified object crash on their farm from the outer space. They adopted the said baby and all was fine and dandy until 12 years later, the now young boy Brandon Breyer (Jackson A. Dunn) was slowly starting to realize that he's different from the other kids, thus boasting his super powers ala Superman

Brightburn's genius premise is what keeps this superhero/horror flick adrift. While it's very interesting to see what an evil Superman would do in a world where everyone thinks of him as weird and dangerous, it's also hard not to notice that the film's creativity stops there. When you dig deeper, Brightburn looks and feels like any other slasher film.

Let's Be Reel

It would've been better if the plot took a much richer storytelling and a more clearer goal instead of just being the horror version of a pop culture superhero icon. Otherwise, it was an okay movie overall.
